‘Treehouse’ is the zestful and uplifting lead single off Eleji’s forthcoming debut album ‘Pray Tomorrow Never Comes’.
The colourful new single produced by Hamley and mixed by Cam Bluff has Eleji delivering slick raps as he twirls the tale of never growing up no matter your age, and living in the present no matter the consequences.
‘Treehouse’ is nothing short of a bright and bold anthem that combines Eleji’s inviting and descriptive lyricism with sparse, soulful production and a hook for the ages.
“I’m just living in the clouds, can’t bring me down. Just you and me now, but forever ain’t enough,” spits the St Kilda / Prahran born emcee, as he paints a vivid picture of his life at 21, which ties itself in as a common theme throughout the upcoming full-length album.
With a video of epic proportions to match directed by Zac Harris, edited by Eleji himself and with animations from Joey Colley-Sowry, ‘Treehouse’ is sure to be the summer song that people add to their playlists.
One of the first pieces of the complex puzzle that is ‘Pray Tomorrow Never Comes’ - ‘Treehouse’ - has been in the works since 2015, and at last it’s ready to not only see the light of day but launch Eleji as a mainstay headline Australian act.
lyrics
Treehouse
Verse One:
I dunno who the f*** I am anymore
Why do I care
Why do they stare
At me like a freak when I walk down the street Eyes on me like cause and effect
Listening to Tupac, driving in my new car
Down the boulevard with my crew that’s a cruiser
Heading to a booze up, I ain’t go too nuts
I only had one drink, then I smoked 2 blunts
(Dude that’s a cop car!)
They ain’t gonna spot us,
Drive around the block
Then we’ll drop to the spot cuz I dunno who the f*** I am anymore
But since a kid
Well I’ve been up to some shifty shit
I grew a beard when I was 10, no fake ID, they let me in.
Now I’m 21 and I’m feelin’ weird
Still trying to rap like I’m the kid
If I think I am, the f****** man well
Then I am and then I is and all that shit
Maybe I'm delusional But go and tell the future you.
To play this at my funeral
And tell my mumma she beautiful
Chorus:
You can find me in a forest in my tree house I'm just sitting with my el, I’m blowing steam out
Ayo I’m livin’ in the clouds
Can’t bring me down Just you and me now
Well, forever ain’t enough
You can find me in a forest in my treehouse I'm just sitting with my el, I’m blowing steam out
Ayo I’m livin’ in the clouds
Can’t bring me down Just you and me now.
Well, forever ain’t enough
Verse Two:
I don’t know how the f*** I’m gonna grow up I’m 21 now, that's so nuts No slow down - and that’s on us
Well that’s on me, and that’s the onus I ain’t gonna sign, see they ain’t gonna own us I been on the grind on the line for my bonus Got drive I’ma ride for my soldiers Needed them when I was at my lowest See me I'm Peter, my señorita is Lois My weekend is like the sixties and the drinks are always pourin’ But this evenin’ know my comedowns bad
Take another, take another
There’s no comin; back
Man, there’s no comin’ back
Chorus:
You can find me in a forest in my tree house I'm just sitting with my el, I’m blowing steam out
Ayo I’m livin’ in the clouds
Can’t bring me down Just you and me now
Well, forever ain’t enough.
You can find me in a forest in my treehouse I'm just sitting with my el, I’m blowing steam out
You can find me in a forest in my treehouse I'm just sitting with my el, I’m blowing steam out
Outro:
Well, you can find me in a forest in my treehouse And I'm just sitting with my el, I’m blowing steam out Ayo I’m livin’ in the clouds
Can’t bring me down Just you and me now
Well, forever ain’t enough
